Potatoes Done!

Our first member workday was a huge success!  We had so many people show up to cut potatoes on Saturday, that we finished in 45 minutes!!  This task usually takes us several hours, so we were caught a bit off guard when 30 members showed up to start their hours, and knocked out the seed potatoes in no time!  We were ecstatic to see so many members getting involved this year!  Don’t worry, for the next workday we will have a long list of things to do!

Next, we needed to plant the seed potatoes, so Monday morning about 10 people showed up to help us get those seeds in the ground, bucketfull by bucketfull.  It only took us a couple of hours to plant 10 beds.  Ramona even helped.  Now we just need to keep them watered, weeded, and potato-beetle free to enjoy delicious potatoes in late July! (Sounds easy, right?)

Monday, April 20th, 2009

Beautiful Spring

09peasLook at the green color of that field of Rye and Vetch! Healthy soil here we come! With the help of our electric conversion tractor, we dug furrows and planted the first peas of the year by hand.  Sugar snap, giant snow peas, and shelling peas all eagerly await the warm sun and gentle spring rains.
